Music producer, songwriter, recording artist, and the brains behind the exciting emerging Canadian soul music collective Soul City Music Co-op, Soul Brother Mike has recently changed his name. After a little disruption which saw tracks disappear and reappear sporadically on digital music streaming and download services including Spotify, Apple Music and Tidal for a short while – a while too long for some, all tracks are now officially back and available to stream under his new artist name, Mike Hargreaves.

Have you heard about the new Canadian music collective that is shaking things up in the world of soul music? If you have then you are in for a treat, if you haven’t you are in for a double treat. Well, Soul Music City Coop, the Ontario collective that is not only keeping soul music alive but is going a step further and ever so gently pushing its boundaries and spicing the genre up in ways never been done before, is growing and getting even more exciting than what its newly established and rapidly-growing fan base could have ever imagined or even wished for in their wildest musical fantasies - what!? you don't have any musical fantasies? And no, meeting Rihanna backstage after a concert and way too much molly, and making out for an hour is not what we're talking about right now; although that would be pretty darn cool - I'd totally wet my pants and be fine with it. For example, imagine if Miley Cyrus crashed your birthday party by literally crashing through the walls naked on a wrecking ball and then proceeded to perform your favorite song naked over a live beat by Bach, Beethoven, Timbaland, Mike Will Made This, Kanye West and Swizz Beatz while Snoop Dogg and Wiz Khalifa smoked weed and played the bongos quietly in the background - no making out involved here at all, and certainly no sorority sisters who can't pay for the pizza delivery they ordered, see how that's different? No? Moving on...

After the recent addition of Ayola back in the summer of 2020 during the heat of the infamous pandemic lockdowns that we’ll never be able to forget, the collective added another exciting new member, Max Marshall on the 19th of March. The collective describes him as a “one-of-a-kind finger-style folk guitarist with deep roots and biting words”. He’s from Essex County and plays a bluesy blend of country, folk and soul. On the 19th of February, folk-rock duo The Bishop Boys released their new, pandemic-inspired single “Dark Days” to critical acclaim on Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, Tidal and all popular digital music services following the release of the official music video of the record a day earlier on YouTube. SOUL CITY WELCOMES AYOLA

They have breathed new life into Canada's soul music scene and are reminding fans what the genre is all about, and newly formed music collective, Soul City Music Co-op seems to get more and more exciting by the day. Formed in January by Ontario musician, songwriter and producer, Soul Brother Mike, the collective was originally made up of 7 acts including his wife, Crissi Cochrane; and his band, The Family Soul. On the 21st of September they welcomed a new member, who is already doing well to add a sprinkle of magic to the already rather spectacular and vibrant outfit. Ayola, the new artist is an afro-soul singer with Nigerian roots and a style that blends African music, soul music and Western pop in a unique way that warrants a category of its own. His debut EP, “Scum” was released just over a week ago, on the 20th of November.

SOUL CITY MUSIC CO-0P ONLINE CONCERT DATES

Like most, if not all musicians are doing post Covid-19, Ontario’s soul music collective Soul City Music Co-op has started streaming their concerts live online. They play on Thursdays and Saturdays at 9 PM Eastern Time, and are already doing well to keep Windsor’s quarantined population happy. The brainchild of Soul Brother Mike, husband of critically acclaimed independent soul music star, singer songwriter Crissi Cochrane, the Soul City Music Co-op was established just over a month ago to foster the careers of Ontario’s top independent artists. The collective currently consists of 6 local acts including Crissi and Mike. Their first online gig was on the 22nd of March and they'll be playing every week for the foreseeable future.
