WYLDER BACK ON STAGE

Music industry update | Washington, USA | Indie band, Wylder

Back in the summer of 2019, when the sensational Washington, DC folk band Wylder released what was hailed as their best album to date, they were bombarded with a plethora of notable live performance dates, including playing at the region’s highly respected venue, Hamilton DC, where they left a lasting impression and cemented their name in the history books as the region’s most exciting new indie folk band to watch. It was their biggest gig to date at the time. Before long the pandemic came along and brought everything to a standstill, but a good band is hard to stop; and the Washington quartet has proven to be just as resilient as they are talented and made it through what the music industry will go on to call one of the darkest times in its history. On the 31st of July, they headlined the venue once again and did it all over again. They left another lasting impression and it doesn’t seem like it would be the last time. Find more Wylder concert dates in Washington and surrounding areas on the Skunk Radio Live Events page.

WE NEED TO TOUCH  TALK

Music industry update | Washington, USA | Indie artist, Wylder

If you are one of those music fans that has an insatiable appetite for meaningful sounds and lyrical content then this band probably needs no introduction; but we’ll introduce it again just for effects.

It's one of the most exciting new folk bands since Saving the Arcadian (🤔 their former band, figures); one of the only bands in the world of its kind; and one of the only bands in the world that can make even the coldest days feel like California, even when it's raining outside. They’re known for their exceptionally bright and sweet melodies, and uplifting rhythms. Their catchy and relatable lyrics are known to echo in ears for extended periods of time after they are first heard. This is one of those bands that earns a special category of their own in every music collection. They are not just amazing – they are spectacular. They are not just hot-T – they sizzle. They don’t just leave a mark – they leave a stain. But most importantly, they could potentially change your life and make you see the brighter side of everything. So now you know (well you already knew but whatever, and if you didn't know, shame on you); let’s get right down to it, shall we?

Critically acclaimed Washington, US independent folk quartet Wylder have returned with a sunny new single just in time for the tentative easing of lockdowns across the world as we all (and our invisible friends, shhh!!)  prepare for whatever the post-pandemic era has to offer. The track was released on the 12th of February, just over 6 months since their last single “Kings of Summer”. Like its predecessor, it has been welcomed with open arms during these dark, ominous and unprecedented times, and is doing well to keep even the most discerning folk music critics dumbfounded, and fans smiling even after being forbidden from touching their loved ones, friends, family members, lovers and secret lovers (wink, wink); and making love in any position other than the one that has been expressly recommended by Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre since the '90s. Okay we just threw in that last part, but it was implied. If you are not doing it already you better learn... and no, that's not what that annoying song by Cali Swag District "Teach Me How to Doughie" is about.

"We Need to Talk", the new single by Wylder is available to stream and download on Spotify, Apple Music and all popular digital music streaming and download platforms. [Stream track below]

TRYING TO STAY ALIVE

Music industry update | New York, USA | Indie artist, Robert Leslie

Released on the 15th of May, New York based Londoner, Robert Leslie’s new single, “Trying To Stay Alive” seems to have slipped under the radar of many amidst all the crisis caused by the Coronavirus pandemic, which has only gotten worse since. But a good song will always get its shine, and like every single one of his records Robert Leslie’s latest is slowly but surely getting its own, over six months after its release. He’s known for his sweet, haunting and melancholic sound, simple melodies and very relatable lyrics that could easily be sung along to after the first listen. According to critics his new track takes everything fans have fallen in love with about the critically acclaimed independent Brooklyn folk star and sprinkles it with a little magic in the form of top of the line production. It’s a lot fuller and a little bigger than what fans are used to; a little brighter even, but no one’s complained so far. According to Leslie, the song was written while creating new material for his forthcoming album but he decided to release it as a single because it didn’t fit in. “Trying To Stay Alive” is available to stream and download on Apple Music, Spotify, Amazon mp3 and all popular digital music services, but unlike the rest of his discography it is not available on Bandcamp as of yet.

LIFE'S A BITCH, AND THEN…

… this happens.

Two whole years after New York based UK artist, Robert Leslie's last full album, the independent folk star has finally released his Summer, 2018 album, "Masks & Mirrors". The highly anticipated 10 track album was released for pre-order and pre-save on iTunes and Spotify today and will officially be available so stream and download freely on both platforms on the 31st of July.

Robert Leslie is one of those types of artists that only comes around once in a lifetime. His records are simple, often with very minimal instrumentation, really memorable melodies, and lyrics about the ups and downs of life told from a real life perspective. He's primarily a songwriter so he has a way with words many top artists today can only dream of. In a few words he'll paint a picture that will whisk you away into your thoughts, and with those same few words he has the power to bring a fully grown man to tears - but don't worry, crying is therapeutic.

Robert's records reek of hours of hard work - writing, re-writing, recording, re-recording, hours in deep thought, and lord knows what else. Meaningful songs are hard to come by. They take a lot of time to create and they are often born out of personal struggles, so unfortunately music fans looking for music with substance usually have to wait quite some time for them but when they finally arrive they come bearing gifts. Tonight we can all breathe a sigh of relief and rest assured that in a couple of days we'll be able to shed those tears that have been deeply embedded in our souls for at least two years. That's of course if listening to his last album once again (or for the first time) doesn't do it.

FINALLY, SOME GOOD NEWS FROM WASHINGTON

It's the world's most watched city and possibly one of the most famous but Washington, USA has had its ups and downs in recent times especially with the election of the new US president who has quickly become known for his unorthodox ways.

Luckily, Washington folk band, Wylder is always on their toes, making sure the iconic city never has a dull day. Having played at some of the region's top live music venues and concert halls regularly since their debut only a few years back when they were called Saving the Arcadian, they have brought joy to many who have had the pleasure of discovering them and they continue to bring reassurance to fans who like their favorite genres to retain their essence. With so many genres being merged with pop in one way or the other, Wylder is one of those bands that manages to appeal to many yet stay true to their original sound. Their first album after their name change, "Rain and Laura" was released back in 2016. The critically acclaimed 10 track album featured their new single, "Bitter" and "Sunstroke", one of their top records when they were still called Save the Arcadian. The album still ranks as one of the top independent folk releases from the region today. In February, they released another highly regarded record, "Live at White Star Sound", a short 4 song EP which was recorded live at White Star Sound, a private state-of-the-art recording facility located on a historic farm outside of Charlottesville, Virginia. Like all their previous works, it has received a lot of praise from critics, fans and industry insiders alike who all hail the band for their authenticity.

Wylder has just announced that they are back in the studio recording their next full album. There are no official release dates yet but we are expecting to hear more about the new project soon.
