Christmas is around the corner once again. It’s that time once again to be jolly, and somehow we’ll all have to put this exhausting and unfortunate year behind us, even if just for that special day, to spend some time with our families, friends, and colleagues (the good ones), whether or not we can touch them (or smell their filthy socks - you know who you are 😆😆😆). 

It’s been a hard year; some of us may have lost loved ones to Coronavirus, others may have lost their livelihoods, and for some it’s that simple yet ever so crucial pleasure and comfort of being able to socialize without limits. It’s been hard for each and every one of us in one way or the other, but as the old saying goes, “all is well that ends well”. So let's not spend the next couple of weeks hiding under the bed waiting for the Coronavirus vaccine, let’s bring the year to an end in a spectacular way like we always do. Let’s have as much socially distanced fun as possible and do everything we would normally do - alone or with the few people we are lucky to have around us when Christmas day comes, so that we can usher in the next year in good spirits and good things can happen. 

But wait, we’ll need a new Christmas song – and guess what? We’ll have one. Christie Huff's new single, “Wish List” was released on the 27th of November and is available to stream and download on Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, Tidal and all top digital music services. So snap out of it, get your ugly jumpers out and let’s get this Christmas thingy underway!

Soul Brother Mike, band leader of Canadian soul music band, The Family Soul; and the brains behind the exciting new Ontario soul music collective Soul City Music Co-op recently announced the completion of a brand new track for the holiday season. It’s been just over a month since his latest single, “Until It Happens To You” was released on the 2nd of October, so the news came as a very welcomed surprise for fans; an early Christmas present, some might have even said. The new song, titled “The Christmas Feeling” was officially released on Friday, the 27th of November. It is available to stream and download on Apple Music, Spotify, Amazon Music, Tidal and all major music platforms.

It’s been a really gloomy year for many of us, but it’s Christmas time again and time to leave all our worries behind. It may not be the Christmas many of us would have envisioned or wished for at the beginning of the year but like every single year it should be special and leave behind lots of fun memories. Earlier last week, Savannah, Georgia R&B singer, songwriter and producer, Jackie’s Boy announced that his Christmas EP, “Almost Christmas” was in the final stages of post-production. It was officially released on the 27th of November. It came as a welcome surprise and was indeed a special treat for fans, just over 2 months since his last EP, “The Black Chapter” took the world of R&B to a place it hadn’t been in a very long time. Released on the 21st of September, "The Black Chapter" was the Grammy award-winning songwriter’s first album since he made his debut as an independent solo artist back in 2017 with the release of “Revival”. "Almost Christmas" is available to stream and download on Apple Music, Spotify and all popular digital music services.

CRISSI'S ANNUAL CHRISTMAS CONCERT

It's that time of the year again. Birds are chirping, trees shedding, snow falling, pot-bellied old men making their ways into people's chimneys, kissing people's moms and eating their cookies and milk unchallenged, friends and families are exchanging socks and underwear for diamond rings, everywhere is secretly rigged with mistle toes for unsuspecting heart throbs, everyone's spending all their money, reindeer are flying in the sky, it could only mean one thing - no, someone hasn't been hitting the sauce again - it's just Christmas. And that in turn could only mean one thing - Crissi Cochrane's famous annual Christmas gig is just around the corner.

If you are not familiar with Crissi, then you'd better get familiar or risk missing out on some really good soul food for your ears. She's Canada's most celebrated independent artist. This year alone her songs saw over 1.5 million streams on Spotify alone. She set a record of over 5 million plays by a self-distributed, self-promoted, self-managed, fully independent artist on the streaming service back in 2016 with her song, "Pretty Words". She's got a voice even angels would wish for and a heart of gold that makes her songs resonate deeply within every listener. Crissi had a baby only a few months ago but she spent very little time off her feet before getting back to gigging. "Little Crissi" has already been seen behind the scenes at gigs getting familiar with the gear and getting his ears tuned up, and could possibly follow in the footsteps of his mom and dad, both exceptionally talented musicians.

MERRY CHRISTMAS, FROM WASHINGTON DC WITH LOVE

They've been hailed as the best thing to happen in Washington, DC since Obama, and there are several reasons why R&B group, Dorothy Milone is held close to the hearts of so many around the world aside from the obvious fact that they are a very easy on the eye blend of all colours, shapes and sizes.

The independent multi-ethnic group started out as a trio only a few years back when their terrestrial radio program, the Dorothy Milone Show took to the airwaves and stole the hearts of Washington fans before spreading rapidly across the country, but after a couple of years, there was a little bit of reshuffling which resulted in the bigger, more vibrant and exciting group we see today. That also meant a bigger sound, bigger stage presence and a whole lot more love from the fast-rising group that just keeps giving. When they are not in the music studio rehearsing or recording, the dedicated group is in their dance studio practising their dance moves, and when they are not doing that, they're are probably on stage blowing the socks off an unsuspecting crowd.

Their recent performance with singer songwriter, Chris Bivins at the Essence festival back in the Summer is still being talked about till today and they've taken their relationship a little further and are now working on other projects together. The video for their new single, "Bells, Bells, Bells" was directed and edited by Chris. The track was released on the 7th of December and has already got fans and industry insiders raving with excitement. The video instantly shot up to #1 on the SRL Top 20 Independent Music Video Charts.

GHETTO CHRISTMAS

He's not Father Christmas, but he gives good fans everything they want, and then some more.

Released on the 8th of November, "Ghetto Christmas" is the brand new single by independent Miami reggae music sensation, Honorebel.

The Jamaica born, US based record label owner and musician, who has collaborated with everyone from Rihanna, Sean Kingston, Snoop Dogg, Akon and Flo Rida to EDM acts like Major Lazer and Pitbull has had an exceptional year packed with loads of new records, videos and live appearances, and appears to be bringing the year to an end early on a festive note, however, Honorebel is one of the hardest working independent artists in the US right now so only time will tell if this is really his last single of the year.
