2020 LION TAFARI

Music industry update | Georgia, USA | Indie artist, Lion Tafari

After a relatively quiet 2019, Georgia, US independent reggae star, Lion Tafari is back on the scene and has announced that he’s working on some new music for 2020. It’s been just over 5 years since his critically acclaimed debut album, “Fiyah Starta” took his local reggae scene by surprise before bringing the US reggae scene as a whole to its knees, and just over 3 since his last single, “Remember The Dayz” followed suit. For many legendary artists, topping their best work is one of the greatest challenges and some will never release a new record until they are sure they’ve done it. He has previously announced once or twice over the past couple of years that new music is in the works but it has become apparent that Lion might be taking his time to ensure that what’s coming is one for the books and more spectacular than the last. Fans and critics alike are hoping it’s a full length project. We’ll just have to wait and see. Watch this space for updates, official 2020 release dates and gigs.

EXTINCTION

Good reggae music hasn't been the same since Bob Marley & the Wailers, whether we like to admit it or not. Over the years reggae has evolved and been fused with so many genres that it is slowly becoming unrecognizable and ready to be swallowed up by pop and watered down like many other genres. Luckily we have independent artists like Lion Tafari who work hard to keep the genre in its original form even when it reaches the mainstream. Yes, we all love to dance and yes we all love those amazing things ladies do in the club when the latest Sean Paul song comes on but dancehall is not reggae and keeping them separate is just as important as keeping hip hop and pop as far apart as possible, if that's still in fact a possibility.

Lion has be working Atlanta's reggae scene independently for a while now and is known for his hard-hitting revolutionary style records that are always rich in lyrics centered around social, spiritual and political matters. His latest single, "Extinction" is on the way, and we've got a sneak preview. [Play video below]

CONSEQUENCES

Atlanta independent (indie) reggae artist, Lion Tafari has been thriving on the underground music scene for a while now, and is constantly being celebrated for his invaluable contributions to not just ATL's independent reggae music scene, but the US reggae scene as a whole. With tracks like "Ghetto Youth Balling" and "Remember the Dayz" released a few years back, Lion won over the hearts of reggae music critics and fans and has been closely watched by the industry. His sound is not just unique in his genre but also stands out creatively and lyrically when compared with other closely related urban genres like hip hop. His song, "Ghetto Youth Balling" is being featured in a noteable upcoming independent film titled "Consequences". It's uncertain whether Lion himself will play a role in the movie but fans are keeping their fingers crossed and holding on to their seats for his next update. Lion has been behind the scenes working on his music for a while now and has new releases on the way but release dates are yet to be announced. He is very active on his local reggae scene so fans can easily catch him performing live at popular local live music venues all year round.
