Currently sitting in the number 1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100:

Drake
In My Feelings
Hip Hop

Drake is a tricky artist to listen to. Hip Hop fans and critics have complained about artists like him for years. They've released good records but they've also released so many records ONLY for mass appeal, so many records that lack real substance and take hip hop far away from what it actually is all about that to listening to his records is like getting a blow job in broad daylight in between two parked cars from a persistent crackhead that really needs the money - you don't want anyone to know you're listening to it because deep down inside you are ashamed, but a part of you also knows it's just not right even though you can't really put a finger on why everytime. But you had either already hit the play button after seeing it online so many times, hearing about the hype, or discovering it on one of the pretentious (I would have preferred to say "fake ass" but I'm trying to polish my writing) mainstream music blogs that'll promote anything just to get on the big 3 record labels' good sides (again, I would have preferred to say "massage the big 3 record labels' balls).

This article was originally titled "N**** LGBT Please!", but that seemed too strong. It's one of those controversial articles that I feel could potentially get me fired in a hot second, but being the edgy writer I am, who is never afraid to push the limits of music journalism and shock readers even if just to get only a few more reads - here it goes.

Now as you may or may not know, I usually write this column on Sundays, however, I told my boss I was going to be sick tomorrow so I had to follow through and do it tonight ahead of a well deserved memory cleansing ritual this fine Saturday evening in London.

I'd tell you where I'm heading but to be honest I really don't want to see you - in fact, I doubt that I'll be doing much seeing tonight. Not unless you're shaped like a big onion or a pair of big juicy water melons.

I'd like to officially welcome you to my new column on SRL Music News, "The Earmaster Will See You". As an extension to my existing column, "Why Music Lost its Commercial Value (Read it here later)" which has been doing particularly well, the good bosses at the SRL Music News room have decided to take another chance on me and provide me with a special column to review some of Billboard's top 100 records every week. For some reason I was expecting to receive the old brown letter when I was tapped on the shoulder late on Sunday night and told quietly, "The big kahuna wants a word". I've never been promoted or given a pat on the back for doing a good job ever in my life. I wasn't even under the slightest impression I was on the boss's good side. Just last week when I said I was going out to launch, I was treated to a really an awkward silence and then a response I wasn't expecting, "See you next week" - and he was right (everybody knows I don't eat anything I didn't cook myself). So anyways, this is really big for me and I hope you'll join me in celebrating with my favorite Skunk Radio Live playlist of all time, "Let's Ride! (listen to playlist - 21 tracks)"

"Excuse me Mr. Pop Star, but your willy's in my ear again."

How many times has that thought popped into your head before angrily hitting the skip button, only to find yourself hitting it over and over and over again before turning the radio off and just basking in the silence and realising how amazing it is?

If you're not 13 to 19 year old (I'm not), which is the most common target demographic for many music marketing campaigns in popular music, then probably all the time. The music industry is one of those industries no one can really wrap their heads around businesswise. Statistics show that the poeple who purchase music the most are 45+ year olds yet all the music created targets youngsters who have no money to spend, and have the utmost disregard for the people who will end up paying for the records and concert tickets on behalf of the poor teenagers with no income. A very large percentage of music purchases by 45+ year olds who are usually buying their old records on CD or digital formats to replace tapes and vinyls or acquire records they never got a chance to own back in the day don't include any new music. No one seems to be making music for grown-ups anymore, not even grown-ups. Isn't anyone tired of hearing the same damn records everytime they visit their parents or grandparents? Yes, they are amazing, but if I hear another song by Simon & Garfunkel (listen to playlist), The Beatles (listen to playlist), Abba (listen to playlist) or Johnny Cash (listen to playlist) , or even Musical Youth (listen to playlist) one more time, I think I'll just go insane - even just mentioning the name Elvis nowadays is enough to make me go nuts. But they made records that parents weren't ashamed to buy for their children. I haven't got any kids but when I watch MTV (just to keep up with what the kids are listening to), I feel embarassed when someone walks in and I switch the channel really quick because there's usually a half naked model making her booty bouce, pop, twerk or clap, eating a banana really slow, or doing something obscene, or someone's saying something no one really wants to hear - why the hell would I go out and buy that for my kids if I had kids? It's no wonder record sales are dropping, parents will never buy what's on the radio for their kids even if they were hippies, it's just seems so wrong on almost every level.

I remember being grossly disheartened, annoyed, disgusted and embarrassed while watching BBC News a few months back after hearing one of Spotify's top music execs say without stuttering for a second that an album is just a playlist. He will remain unnamed mainly because he is probably one of the biggest kahunas in the music industry right now. How could anyone who knows anything about music think that an album - hours, days and sometimes years of hard work picking the right songs, writing, re-writing, recording, re-recording, mixing, re-mixing, and let's not forget the crucial final stage, mastering, part of which includes making the transition between each song and even the arrangement of the songs in the album sometimes as enjoyable as possible - is just a playlist?

Jesus doesn't walk here, good music takes you places.

In case you are just getting into this weekly music news article series, you may notice the cheeky "explicit" notice above. This is not to say the article is pervaded with curse words and bitch calling, it's simply a polite way of letting readers know they are in for a good few minutes of unhinged writing that may or may not piss them off or leave them totally disgusted. As a writer any of those results is just as desirable as putting a smile on someone's face, which I always try to do. If you've been following this column for a while then you probably know the "explicit" notice has been a long time coming. My last twitter post seems to have been the final straw - apparently I was too honest in my LinkedIn #WhenIWas15 post (read it here). Needless-to-say, I've been banned from posting to SRL's social media pages without proper supervision until I start being a little less direct and less honest. Now that that's out of the way, let's get right down to it.
