Currently sitting in the number 1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100:

Drake
In My Feelings
Hip Hop

Drake is a tricky artist to listen to. Hip Hop fans and critics have complained about artists like him for years. They've released good records but they've also released so many records ONLY for mass appeal, so many records that lack real substance and take hip hop far away from what it actually is all about that to listening to his records is like getting a blow job in broad daylight in between two parked cars from a persistent crackhead that really needs the money - you don't want anyone to know you're listening to it because deep down inside you are ashamed, but a part of you also knows it's just not right even though you can't really put a finger on why everytime. But you had either already hit the play button after seeing it online so many times, hearing about the hype, or discovering it on one of the pretentious (I would have preferred to say "fake ass" but I'm trying to polish my writing) mainstream music blogs that'll promote anything just to get on the big 3 record labels' good sides (again, I would have preferred to say "massage the big 3 record labels' balls).

I'd like to officially welcome you to my new column on SRL Music News, "The Earmaster Will See You". As an extension to my existing column, "Why Music Lost its Commercial Value (Read it here later)" which has been doing particularly well, the good bosses at the SRL Music News room have decided to take another chance on me and provide me with a special column to review some of Billboard's top 100 records every week. For some reason I was expecting to receive the old brown letter when I was tapped on the shoulder late on Sunday night and told quietly, "The big kahuna wants a word". I've never been promoted or given a pat on the back for doing a good job ever in my life. I wasn't even under the slightest impression I was on the boss's good side. Just last week when I said I was going out to launch, I was treated to a really an awkward silence and then a response I wasn't expecting, "See you next week" - and he was right (everybody knows I don't eat anything I didn't cook myself). So anyways, this is really big for me and I hope you'll join me in celebrating with my favorite Skunk Radio Live playlist of all time, "Let's Ride! (listen to playlist - 21 tracks)"
