WHAT HAPPENS IN THE BACK SEAT OF JEFF'S MUSICAL CAR
Music industry update | Ontario Canada | Indie singer songwriter, Crissi Cochrane |
Music discovery is an adventure that many music lovers of today more often than not are sadly finding overwhelming and tedious, to say the very least. There are over 10,000,000 emerging artists, bands and indie record labels out there on the wild wild Web, all competing for the number one spot on the thousands of independent and unsigned music charts, blogs, awards, talent showcases and competitions online, not to mention the countless local musicians competing for that prestigious spot on the shelves of their local niche independent record stores and the opportunity to rock the stage at their top local live music venues, clubs, community centers and concert halls. Independent record stores were once and in fact still are sacred havens for anyone who takes their music collecting beyond mainstream music, or pop as it will soon be known once all genres have been consolidated and each completely annihilated in the name of the almighty dollar. Mainstream music has brought us so many amazing artists and bands over the years that it’s hard for anyone to say anything bad about it without shoving their own thumb where it doesn't belong in the process, and not in a fun way. Sure, many artists have been said to sell their souls and leave behind all the values they started out with even for a little taste of the limelight, but who wouldn’t in such a competitive market, especial today? That’s not to say we condone it or that everyone’s doing it but it has proven time and time again to work, and with the state of the world’s economies anyone who knows anything about today’s music industry knows there will eventually come a time in almost every really amazing emerging artist or band’s career when they must choose between making the music they love and staying independent or making the music major record labels say they can sell and subsequently getting a (hopefully) lucrative record deal. Which would you choose? Don’t worry no one’s judging you here.
Luckily there are still artists and bands out there who are so amazing at what they do that they can choose either and still have a successful career while remaining true to who they are. One of such artists is Windsor, Ontario, Canada’s Crissi Cochrane, who single-handedly shot to fame and became a household name nationally with the release of her single, “Pretty Words” in 2016. The song was streamed over 5 million times on Spotify and went viral on YouTube. Crissi has a soulful voice that has been compared to many greats, but she has a family-friendly style and demeanor that sets her apart. She has since performed at some of her home region’s most prestigious venues and concert halls, featured on Ontario's top radio stations, publications and television stations, and been celebrated throughout Canada for her artistic excellence and independent career achievements. She is now completing her next album, which is expected in stores soon. This week she featured on the popular online Canadian independent music series, “Jeff’s Musical Car” and she set the record for the most viewed episode so far. [Watch full video below]
