NAME RINGS BELLS

Yung Rackz is one of the most formidable rappers underground hip hop and hip hop as a whole has seen in a very long time. Lyrically, he'll take you back to the time of Easy E, NWA, Ice Cube and Ice T, and make you feel alive once again. His rhymes are fearless and he doesn't chase mass appeal so he'll say whatever needs to be said. Now we don't promote drugs and violence at SRL but we like the truth very much. Life in the inner city is hard and rough, everyone knows that, so it's appalling to hear mainstream hip hop artists make it seem like it's the dream life, like a fantasy all of us should or wish we could live out, and sadly many unguided youths wish they could. No one wants to get shot, go to jail or even get arrested, and no one wants to sell drugs, so why make it seem like it's fun and everything is all rosy in the streets late at night?

This is where Rackz comes in. With his debut single, Back in the Day (listen here), Rackz painted a picture and set the tone for his career in the same way rappers like the Notorious B.I.G did when they made their debuts. He let the world know where he was coming from and where he was trying to go. Rackz' debut single is still one of the hottest hip hop records that has been released over the last two decades. It's a hip hop masterpiece. It's lyrically and musically sound, it's inspirational and it's got that bite, drive and hunger that sadly no hip hop record has nowadays. It is for this reason that rap music fans and DJs, locally and nationally who have had the privilege of discovering him have followed closely and supported every single one of his records ever since.

Rackz also lays a lot of emphasis on quality when he releases music. He's not one of those upcoming artists that releases everything they record and every freestyle they conjure up on the toilet after their morning coffee (or "wet cigarette", as it were). From music videos, to press photos, album/CD cover design, to the very records themselves, and even the distribution of the records, everything is always as commercially viable as even the Big 3 record labels would demand.

Before go rushing to explore his discography, you'll need to remember once again that this is not the soft stuff you see on MTV or hear on your favorite radio station - girls in bikinis, champagne, felacio... It's raw, it's uncut, it's real life, and you may see stuff or hear stuff you don't condone, but the truth is bitter sometimes.
