The Coronavirus pandemic has hit every sector of the world’s economies where it hurts really bad and is leaving many businesses in disarray. The hospitality and entertainment industries in particular seem to have taken the biggest blows because they often come under the “non-essential business” categories during lockdown scenarios - which means they are usually the first to be forced to close and the last to be allowed to re-open when lockdown restrictions are lifted. Musicians, bands and entertainers have all had to get creative in the way they generate revenue, keep in close contact with their fans and get their new content out there. Live streaming, socially distanced open-air events, merchandising, busking and podcasting are just some of the avenues many musicians have taken to during the pandemic, and fans are supporting in any ways they can. Other avenues like crowdfunding sites are also proving to be invaluable in these dire times. Sites like Patreon and Indiegogo are being used by musicians to raise funds for their future projects and also fund ongoing operations. This week, independent Ontario soul music star, Crissi Cochrane announced the launch of her first Patreon campaign, which offers fans access to previously unheard and unreleased music every month in addition to other exciting perks.
