Music industry update | New York, USA | Indie artist, Ni$ha

Female hip hop artists have always been underrepresented in rap music, but over the past decade we've seen them go from being a minority that was more often than not forced to take the back seat to a minority that now dominates. Rappers like Nicki Minaj, Cardi B and Iggy Azalea have excelled in hip hop like no other female artists have done in a very long time and they are setting a trend for other female artists, not just in hip hop but in other male dominated genres as well, that seems like is here to stay. Back in the day when artists like Lil' Kim, Salt-N-Pepa and Trina were doing their thing, there was very little room for new female rappers to emerge in the way new femcees are doing today with the help of the Internet and services like YouTube and Instagram that are making music promotion easier and more accessible to DIY artists and bands, as opposed to back when music industry professionals, A&Rs, managers and record labels where the only way to get exposure if you didn't have a strong street team to promote and distribute your CDs and cassette tapes locally. Today, unlike back in hip hop's early days when only a handful would emerge every couple of years, there are now more female rap artists emerging than ever before, and as the competition grows they are becoming fiercer and more determined than even some of their male counterparts. This week on the SRL Networks Auditions we had the great pleasure of discovering and exploring the discography of one of such fierce femcees that won't take no for an answer. She hails from the very home of hip hop - The Bronx, New York where DJ Kool Herc first gave the world its first taste back in the '70s. Ni$ha's repertoire dates as far back as 2014. At the start of her music career it grew slowly but it is now growing almost exponentially. Her sound has evolved progressively over the years and she is now being hailed as one of the region's top new contenders to watch. Just over 2 weeks ago she released her latest single, "Got 'Till It's Gone Remix", which is available to stream free on Soundcloud and selected free music promotion platforms.
