YOU ARE ADDICTED TO SOCIAL MEDIA
Whether you are promoting a song, video, fashion line, gaming channel, entertainment website, book or film, flaunting your video game high scores, showing off your gym body or your beach bod, starting your own business, sharing pleasant memories or photos, discussing hot topics or current events, or simply telling others about what's going on in your life, there's nothing more exciting than seeing your Twitter, Facebook, Google+, YouTube, Instagram, Linked or other social media post get that very first like, comment or share, and then another, and another, and then some more, each time edging you closer and closer to achieving what can only be described as the ultimate goal on social media - going viral. Social media is also one of the top sources of up-to-the-minute news and information, which makes us even more likely to check it several times a day even if just to keep up with what's going on around the world. Afterall, isn't it about time we got a break from the same old news outlets telling us only what they know or want us to know and hear directly from the horses' mouths?
Yes, we all love social media very much and as much as we may hate to admit it, we are all "addicted", even if just mildly. But don't worry, as long as you're not (hopefully) going to wake up in cold sweats, shaking uncontrollably in the middle of the night, put on your ski mask and rob the nearest liquor store because you've run out of mobile data and there's no wifi, then you are probably fine. If you think you might do that, or you've already done that, then please get help immediately - the first step is admitting it.
Before social media all we had was the local, national and international news on television or radio, or from newspapers and magazines, and whichever the choice of media was we were always and some of us are still keen to go back over and over.
So what's all this hype about social media addiction? Who cares? We love it and we're not ashamed to love it so much. Even Donald Trump is unashamedly addicted, waking up at 3 AM to tweet first thing in the morning. That's not to say he's God (or Kanye West), but he must certainly get a rush from it too, everyone does, including the very reporters and journalists who continue to report on the issue like it's a growing epidemic while they're checking their own feeds for the latest news stories themselves probably even more than the average teenager. Maybe it's a growing problem, maybe it's not, but like it or not, social media is here to stay for good, so enjoy it before it becomes a paid service - which is probably where all this fake news (as Donald Trump would call it) is heading.
Here's a twitter song to celebrate your favorite pastime. Share with your fellow Tweetheads and who knows, you may even go viral.
