DADDY LIKE THAT
Located in the South Central region of the United States, Texas is the second largest state both by land area and by population. The traditional "Texas cowboy" image which is associated with the state is owing to the fact that it dominated in the cattle industry before and after the US Civil War. The state now leads in many other industries including tourism, agriculture, energy, technology, medicine and even aerospace engineering, and is home to 54 of the Fortune 500 companies - the 500 biggest corporations in the US as compiled annually by Fortune magazine. It is also a place for musical innovation, with many notable genres getting their starts or evolving significantly in the region including country, Tejano, Conjunto, Rock 'n Roll, mariachi, zydeco and psychedelic rock. The state particularly fosters a very rich country music culture and has brought us iconic country acts like Willie Nelson, Kenny Rogers, Miranda Lambert, Jim Reeves and the Dixie Chicks. This week on the SRL Auditions we explored the state's vibrant emerging music scene. We listened to the discography of a new artist called Derek Anthony, who is quickly making a name for himself as a force to reckon with on his local music scene, and also delved into the buzz behind his popular 2019 single, "Daddy Like That".
